Woodfiring
Each woodfiring is different. In the anagama the atmosphere and wood ash create the glaze. Occasionally Catherine uses dust prints or slips. This minimal palette liberates her imagination. It allows room for evidence of the touch of her hand. Visual lines and volumes of shape create textures of emotional resonances. An atmospheric firing allows the intent and character of the hand to speak. Switching between our gas kiln and the woodkiln continually recenters our vision towards a spareness that allows room for use. The varied warm, dry surfaces of the pots can collaborate with food, flowers, or a chosen spiritual practice. Usefulness makes pottery accessible to creative involvement. We hope these pots provide opportunities to elevate mundane aspects of life into meaningful creative interactions.
